The Blacklist Fall Preview: Will Red Forgive Liz For Her Deception?

screen-capThe Blacklist Fall Preview: Will Red Forgive Liz For Her Deception?

In just a few weeks, we will be reunited with our favorite criminal and his cohorts when The Blacklist returns on September 22nd. One aspect of the new season I have personally been curious about, is how will the dynamic be between Red and Lizzie. For the entirety of the show so far, it has been fairly one-sided, with Red always working over-time to either gain her love, her trust, or whatever it was in that moment.

Liz, while showing moments of affection and trust for Reddington, has famously been wishy-washy when it comes to the patriarchal figure, constantly giving him mixed signals. When she was on the run, he saved her life. When he withheld information, she blasted him for lack of trust. However, now the tables are turned, and it is Red who may not be able to trust Liz.

After her faux death, orchestrated by Dr. Nik and Mr. Kaplan, Lizzie is in trouble once again. Even though Reddington may not like the lengths that she went to, he will still do whatever it takes to find her. Speaking of said lengths… what will Reddington do to his long-time friend, co-conspirator and all-around Gal Friday, Mr. Kaplan? If we know anything about Raymond Reddington, he values loyalty above all else. How will her betrayal affect him going forward, and will he allow her to keep breathing for her part in Liz’s “death”?

The Blacklist Season 4 Promo

According to one of the latest Fall Preview Columns via TVLine, Reddington will do whatever it takes to get Liz and Agnes back safely, but that doesn’t mean he won’t have a chilly reunion with her. The below snippet about The Blacklist says exactly that:

Season 4 resumes just moments after Alexander Kirk revealed himself to (possibly) be Liz’s real father, which sets up a major arc for the year. “[Kirk] is a character who has a firm grasp on truths about Elizabeth Keen’s past, unlike any character we’ve had before,” series creator Jon Bokenkamp teases. “Over time, he will be unpacking truths that are undeniable about who Elizabeth Keen is, where she comes from, what her connection is to Kirk, to her mother and, ultimately, to Reddington.” As for Red’s mental state: Given the emotional wringer he was put through last year, Bokenkamp says the mood between him and Liz will be “a bit chillier” when the show returns. In fact, it will be “a beat or two” before the characters share any screen time.

BONUS SPOILER!: Though Megan Boone is a new mom in real life, Bokenkamp assures us the actress is back to work full-time. “Even though the shape of the show has shifted because [Liz is] MIA and in the custody of Alexander Kirk, she is clearly a key part of what the show is,” he says. “We’ll be seeing much more of her than we had in the past.”
RETURN DATE: Thursday, Sept. 22 at 10/9c (NBC)

  1. this show is my true addiction. My husband and I have never watched a show together and this is 1 that we both sit down together to enjoy.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE James Spader. would love to meet him

    • It’s definitely a great show to watch together! It is one of the few shows I make sure to watch live and not off the DVR because I just can’t wait to see what’s going to happen. James is great too! I think one of his best roles to date.
