5 Things I Need To Know Before The Blacklist Season 3 Finale
Picture it: You’re 8 months pregnant with your ex-husband’s child, and you are preparing to marry him again. But wait! If that isn’t exciting enough, your job calls and tells you, ‘by the way, there is a major criminal on the loose and he wants to steal a nuclear weapon.’
In what universe does this end well? Certainly not in the world where Elizabeth Keen and Raymond Reddington are living. Throw in the fact that said ex-husband is basically a trained assassin with a sketchy past, you can pretty much guarantee it’s not going to be a great day for a white wedding.
Last week’s much anticipated return of The Blacklist was chock full of action and strife with more bullets flying than a Tarantino flick. If you have yet to watch the episode, I suggest you do so post-haste. Any sort of recap just won’t do it justice. While there was a severe lack of Reddington in the first half of the episode, the last 30 minutes more than made up for that.
This episode stirred up a lot of questions that I really hope the writer’s room plans on presenting us with before the season ends. I know season 4 is out on the horizon, but to have some closure on some of these issues going into hiatus would be a lovely bonus to the conclusion of a jagged season.
5 Things I Need to Know Before The Blacklist Season 3 Wraps
1. Liz, Tom and Baby Keen
I need some conclusion to this relationship between Liz and Tom, and I think I know where it’s going. With the news of the spin-off coming to NBC and the fact that Ryan Eggold (Tom Keen) will be one of the helms of the ship, I imagine that Liz and Tom will somehow end. With the Major now dead, and no official wedding, how will Tom transition from The Blacklist to this new show? Will the baby perish and drive them apart? Raymond keeps insisting that Tom is not who he says he is and many think that he is still playing Liz in some form or another. I feel at this point should he be exposed as a triple agent of sorts, he needs to go because his story will have been exhausted. There really is no room in Liz’s life for Tom.
2. Who freed Solomon?
Liz assumes that it is her mother behind the attack on the church. Reddington assures her that Katarina is dead and that it couldn’t be her. It’s not the Cabal, they were the ones who wanted Solomon dead in the first place. I’ve seen a few mentions online of people saying that it could be Tom’s mother, going after the baby. But somehow I tend to think it for sure has something to do with Liz’s mother. I can never tell exactly when Raymond is lying (to me, I always think he is lying) so, is she really dead or maybe she’s alive and he has been the one fooled for once. Don’t forget that painting. Was that really from her as well, or someone just invoking the name of a ghost?
3. Can Liz please make a decision on whether or not she wants to have Reddington around?
In the episode before the hiatus, she tells him that some things can’t be forgiven. However, during last week’s episode of The Blacklist, in one breath she wanted him there, then when he asks her to reconsider she wants him gone again. I like Liz, I do, and I understand that Reddington can be frustrating and is never really forthcoming with the information she wants. But… this back and forth is getting old. I wish she would either commit to the fact she cares about him, no matter what their true connection is, or that she walks away from him and the job forever.
4. Is it Tom Keen or Jacob Phelps?
I mean… are we just going to gloss over the fact that Tom Keen is a fake identity? I wonder when they transition his character over to the spin-off show, will they give him yet another new identity?
5. Will Raymond ever tell Liz the entire truth of it… I mean ALL OF IT?
My guess to that question is, no. We won’t know that for a while, if ever. Whatever lies at the heart of this conspiracy and secrecy of Liz’s parents and how Raymond is/was involved with them is the central mytharc of the show… if you have that knowledge, do you still have a show? Yes! I think so… So, c’mon guys, give it to us! Let us in on the secret and then we can move on with them in a new way that will be just as good. I have faith in you guys.
To be honest, there are a lot of other things I want to know. Will Samar, Ressler, or Amar get some stories of their own next season? Will we see more members of Red’s Army or their backstories. I, for one, would love to know how Red and Mr. Kaplan met. Mostly, I want to know how this two-parter is going to play out when the show comes back this Thursday. Did Baz and Dembe both get shot? Will Raymond keep his word and tell Liz what he knows once she and the baby are safe?
Lots of questions and only a handful of episodes left. Before you go, watch the promo for The Blacklist 3×18 ‘Mr. Solomon – Conclusion‘ and use the comments below to let us know what questions you are seeking answers to before the end of the season!
